Our Story

If you want to hear a story about a project that got a little out of control – then this is it...
During the 2020 covid lockdown with the kids at home the family project was to clear out the “old back shed”. That led to relining, reroofing, installing doors and windows etc.

The unintended result was the ideal party room for family, friends and neighbours. We thought that was the end of the story, until our neighbours held their wonderful wedding in our “old back shed”. So that started the ball rolling a little more.
Joe & Ju Moffett
We dollied the shed up a bit more, removed a few old Braeburn apple trees, put down half a hectare of grass, named it Shamrock Park, and put the venue up for hire. Then came cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023. The cyclone flooded the entire Puketapu valleys and communities, including us. For a long period it was just picking up the pieces and getting going again, during which stage it was decided – let’s try to have some real fun out of this.
So we spent the weekends pushing the cyclone silt around, shaping a golf green, water feature and landscaping. We built a few cabins, tidied up the house, and so here we are. Shamrock Park – finished at last - 5 years later! Joe - having always collected native timber and having a passion for making stuff, and Ju, willing to humour him and give anything a go.

Between us we have managed to create a special space, we love it - and hope you do too!
Why the name Shamrock Park?
Joe’s father, Jonnie Moffett, is a very proud Irishman who has lived in NZ since 1964. He has always been a strong figure and personality in our family. A likeable and hard working sort of a bloke, an ex Irish Rubgy International who enjoys his sports, a Guiness or two, and a good old knees up sing a long party. So the name Shamrock Park, once mentioned, sort of stuck.
